THE POOR TATERS
The Poor Taters are a vibrant new group from the ridge
top town of Athens,
W.Va., located near Concord University. The trio features Kevin Dalton on Banjo,
John Nelson on Guitar, and Bob Campion on the Doghouse Bass. Beth Nelson is the
fourth member of the Poor Taters sitting in on a number of tunes which vary in
style from Jazz and Swing to Old-Time and Blues. It is not unusual to see the
Taters swap instruments throughout a set. Mandolin, guitar, banjo, bass,
harmonica and the occasional kazoo pop up throughout their shows. The band's
musical focus is based on Old-Time and neo-traditional movements bred in
Appalachia and sometimes steps into other realms such as Blues and early rock n'
roll. Check out the sounds and sites of the Poor Taters at

Clinton Collins is a performing songwriter from the heart of
the Appalachian Mountains. His musical poetry is filled with
the mystery, fascination, and stark beauty of his natural
surroundings. Blends of rock, country, blues, folk, gospel,
and mountain music are creatively woven into a sound that
retains the fingerprints of his own personality. With a
relaxed, yet passionate vocal style, Clinton offers a unique
sampling of original songs about people and places that seem
familiar and stories that resonate with us all. He was a
winner of the 2005 New Song Festival {the Sundance for
performing songwriters} for his song We’re Watching Home &
Garden and also won The Next Great West Virginia Song
Contest with The Appalachian Way. Catch his latest cd, Creek
Boy Blues, on Lost Cauz Records. |
 TODD BURGE |
"Todd Burge has proven himself to be one of the
hardest working musicians on the WV music scene, more
importantly, that dedication has helped him grow into a prolific
songwriter with melody, phrasing and wit to spare."

Blues Unlimited
The original
Blues Unlimited wasn't Blues Unlimited.
Instead, they were the band of Princeton blues icon
Nat Resse...but one night Nat got sick, the show had
to go on, and Blues Unlimited was born. Consisting
of Bo Strain on
drums, Red Ricks on bass, Bob McGraw on harmonica,
and Dave Farmer on guitar, the band played
festivals, bars and coffeehouses in the two
Virginias and developed quite a following with their
mix of Chicago blues, classic r+b, and contemporary
blues/rock and funk.
Drummer/vocalist Bo Strain left
the band in 2002 and was replaced by Atlanta native
Ricky Bear...Blues Unlimited shared the stage with
the likes of ex-Muddy Waters guitarist Bob Margolin,
harmonica virtuoso Jason Ricci, Ann Rabson of
Saphire, and others and generally had a great time
entertaining people with the blues, but the paucity
of local paying gigs eventually led to the band's
demise, though they continued to reunite at jams
like The McGraw Brother's Annual Christmas Jam...and
they've reunited again for this year's Bramwell
Oktoberfest, this time with Bill Fulton on drums
and Mary Jo Mondo on vocals. |
